Congratulations to Anthony Knittel, our very own Naval Reservist who just soloed for the 1st time. Anthony was born in Houston but grew up in southern Ca. He went to school at Southern Illinois U where he earned a degree in Instructional Systems Design and also holds an associates degree in Aviation Technology. In addition to his flying accomplishments, Anthony is pursuing a commission as a Naval Intelligence Officer.
He also has a nine year old daughter aptly named Arielle Skye.
When Anthony isn’t flying or going to school, he surfs and plays guitar, mostly classical, blues and folk. Keep up the great work Anthony and watch out for Great Whites!

Congratulations to CFA’s own lawyer and pilot to be extraordinaire. Alena Herranen was born in Mammoth Lakes and grew up skiing before going to college at UC Davis and then to law school at UCSD. Alena boasts not only a law degree but also a degree in business administration and tax law. Besides flying Alena loves to dance, both tap and jazz, she swims and has been seen climbing up the walls of a rock gym. Alena’s husband Fred, also a pilot and graduate of CFA, spent days scrambling around the airport with their three daughters to capture her accomplishments on film. Great work Alena, keep it up and just remember to wear a hard hat when you’re climbing: those rock gyms can be treacherous.
